The Nationally Accredited Sioux City Police Department is seeking dedicated Police Officers driven to preserve law and order and emphasize our desire to work in partnership with the community through community policing, outreach efforts, and establishing strong partnerships with the citizens we serve. Starting wage for an entry level Police Officer effective June 17, 2023, is $60,067.87. Law enforcement officers certified in the State of Iowa for a minimum of two (2) years or possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university will be entitled to start at $72,086.64. Expected wage range after (3) three years of service will be $75,531.85 to $88,268.57 with potential for more based on the next contract. ***Apply at www.siouxcitypolice.com QUALIFICATIONS - POLICE OFFICER In order to take the entrance exam for Police Officer, you have to meet the following requirements: 1. Be able to read, write, and speak the English language. 2. Be of good moral character. 3. Not be an alcohol or drug addict. 4. Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application submission. 5. Proof that applicant has obtained a high school diploma or GED equivalent. 6. Be in good physical condition and be able to participate in a physical agility test. 7. If a Veteran is interested in receiving veterans' preference, they must furnish a copy of their DD 214 or other official Department of Defense document that verifies the dates of their induction and separation and their honorable discharge no later than the closing date of applications. The veterans’ preference points will be given only upon passing the exam and cannot be a determining factor in passing the exam. 8. Be required to have fingerprints taken. 9. Must be a United States citizen. 10. Must not have a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence as defined by the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968 as amended in October 1996. 11. Must not have been convicted of a felony.
