Dennis Vinson, 62, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th St., Urbandale, IA., 50322. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA., 50310. A vigil service will be held at 6:30.

Dennis was born October 29, 1951 in Oak Lawn, ILL. to Homer and Ann Vinson. He graduated from Oak Lawn High school. After high school he opened his own auto body repair shop. He joined the Urbandale Police Department in 1984 and served for 18 years retiring in 2002. After retirement, Dennis worked security for the Federal Building for 6 years. He also enjoyed working with adults with special needs. Dennis enjoyed reading historical books, wood working and especially loved spending time with his family.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia (Bliss) Vinson; grandson, Daniel Walker; daughters, Melissa, Victoria and Carrie; sisters, Janice (John) Schaller, Joyce (Frank) Williams and Donna Vinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son in-law, Warren "Jim" Walker
