Waterloo Police Lt. Monty Frana died suddenly Friday September 19, 2014 at his home in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  

CEDAR FALLS -- Monty Joseph Frana, 43, of Cedar Falls, died at home Friday, Sept. 19.

He was born March 19, 1971, in Charles City, son of Marcelline and Monica Treml Frana. He married Andrea Brasch at Grace Baptist Church on Nov. 22, 2003.

Monty graduated from Charles City High School in 1989 and from NIACC in 1991. Lieutenant Frana started with the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department in 1992 and was hired by the Waterloo Police Department in 1996. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2003 and again promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2011. He was assigned to second-shift patrol as the watch commander and was a long-term member and supervisor on the Tac Team.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Maclayne and Makenna Frana, both of Cedar Falls; his father of Charles City; two brothers, Mark (Loretta) of Lowden and Matthew (Jessica) of Mason City; and two sisters, Michelle (Larry) Lienemann of Rosemount, Minn., and Melanie (Bruce) Smit of Thorton.

Preceded in death by: his mother.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Prairie Lakes Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and an hour before services Wednesday, all at the church. Parrot & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Monty was known to be a jack of all trades, analytical and extremely talented and gifted in many areas. He was a devoted husband to his wife Andrea, and father to his daughters Maclayne and Makenna, all of whom he loved dearly. Monty was a friend and mentor to many.
