Marvin V. Messerschmidt, 82, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 5, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

CEDAR FALLS -- Marvin V. Messerschmidt, 82, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 5, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

He was born April 29, 1931, in Shelby County, son of Walter F. and Mabel A. Krohn Messerschmidt. He married Dixie R. Moore on July 23, 1952, in Shelby.

He graduated from Shelby High School in 1950 and was a State Trooper for the Iowa State Patrol for 30 years, retiring in December 1986.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Dan of Marion and Brian (Carin) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Nancy (Craig) Baumhover of Marion and Kristin (Dan) Wright of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) Moore of Marion, Landon Baumhover of Ames, Zachary (Michelle Vanderah) Messerschmidt of Ankeny, Conner Messerschmidt of Cedar Falls, Tyler (Ashleigh) Wright of Waukee, Jordan (fiance Leigh Sires) Wright of Cedar Rapids and Levi Wright of Muscatine; four great-grandchildren, Damian and Jailyn Moore and Owen and Jackson Messerschmidt; six stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Eggerss of Shelby; a brother, Allen (Kay) of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in-law, Catherine (Bob) Thoms of Shelby.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Dale; and a brother-in-law, Ronald Eggerss.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with burial at a later date in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Richardson Funeral Service and also for an hour before services Monday at the church.
