Michael J. McEvoy, age 74, of Council Bluffs, passed away December 17, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha.

Mike was born September 6, 1940, in Council Bluffs, to the late Patrick and Catherine (Behm) McEvoy. He graduated from St. Francis High School in 1960 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mike married Linda McCoy on April 11, 1964. They were blessed with four daughters, Jackie, Veronica, Kelly and Michelle. Mike worked for the Council Bluffs Police Department from 1964 until 1996, retiring as a Lieutenant. He was a member of Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church and the Police Benevolent Association.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard in infancy; sister, Lucille Goodell; and son-in-law, Ronald Hayden.

Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda McEvoy, of Council Bluffs; daughters, Jackie (Todd) Jensen, of Bellevue, Neb., Veronica McEvoy, Kelly (Denny) Nusser, Michelle (Jason Downing) Hayden, all of Council Bluffs; 6 grandchildren, Holly (Josh) Romey, Devin (Jenny) Jensen, Catie McEvoy, Jaimie Jensen, Chase Hayden, Colton Downing, Jayden Nusser; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Frank McEvoy; sister, Rosemary Horn, both of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.

Wake service Sunday, 4 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 6 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, 10 a.m., at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church. Interment Garner Township Cemetery with military rites tendered by the American Legion Post #2. A lunch will follow at the church. The family will direct memorials.
