Robert L. Worden, 92 of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at a local hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City with Father David A. Hemann as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military graveside rites by the United States Marine Corps. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be offered to Hospice of Siouxland, in Robert’s name. Robert was born on January 2, 1924 in Sioux City, Iowa to Lloyd and Alice (Mansfield) Worden. After attending country school, Robert finished his education at Central High School in Sioux City. He joined the United States Marine Corps in December of 1942. Robert served in the Pacific Area, was rifle sharpshooter qualified, and received his honorable discharge as a Corporal in October of 1945. He married Shirley Campbell on September 30, 1950 in Sioux City, and to this union, four children were born. Robert joined the Sioux City Police Department in December of 1949, and retired from the force as Assistant Chief in 1986. Robert enjoyed golfing until age 87, wintered in Texas for 25 years, and volunteered with Hospice for 6 years in Sioux City.

Robert is survived by his daughters Susan M. Corbett and her husband Daniel of Topeka, KS, Amy J. Freeman and her husband Timothy of Hubbard, Nebraska, and Mary K. Worden-Fiedler of Sioux City; son Matthew R. Worden of Denver, CO; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers Richard Worden of Sioux City, and Mike Worden of California; sisters Dorothy Kozlow of California, and JoAnn Kinsey of Illinois.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley in 1995, great-granddaughter Olivia, sisters Lorraine, Mary, and Betty, and brothers Eugene “Bugsy” and Jack.
