Evan Athan Hines was called away from home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 1, 2020.

There will be a public visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A private service will be held at Sheffield Cemetery in Story City.

Evan A. Hines was born on November 15, 1932 in Ames, Iowa, the son of William and Iris (Elaine) Hines. Evan served in the Iowa National Guard. After that, he enlisted into the U.S. Army where he did active duty in Korea. After that he served in the U.S. Marine Corps until he retired from military service.

After coming home he met his first love, Ardeth, and soon became a Des Moines Police Officer. He served 30 years, then retired in 1988. He also became an Ordained Minister in July of 1986. Later attending Shalom Bible College Seminary, where he received a B.A. in Ministry. Later he graduated with a Doctorate in Theology, and received a Scholastic Achievement Award of Mega Cum Laude.

After the death of his first love (Ardeth), he soon met his second love, Verla. He leaves behind both of his families: his son Scott (Terri) Hines, daughter Pamela Beck, three half-sisters: Patricia Curtis, Janice Irving, Colleen Kirregarrd, step-sons: Scott (Connie) Carter, Brian (Donna) Carter, and many other family members. Also he had 6 grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his first wife Ardeth, he was preceded in death by his second wife Verla, his son Dennis Beck, his father William, mother Iris (Elaine) and his brother Donald.
