The City of Humboldt (population 4,792), is seeking candidates for the position of assistant chief of police. This is a newly created position and presents a unique opportunity for a qualified candidate to step into a supervisory/administrative position. Humboldt is the largest city in Humboldt County and has excellent schools, a state-of-the-art recreation center and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities. Requirements
Education Requirements: An Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice/Public Administration or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred Experience: Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience as a police officer, with 5 or more in a supervisory/management position, is preferred. Additional supervisory training or police executive leadership schools (SPI, SMIP, Northwestern, FBI National Academy) would be beneficial. The City will consider any combination of education, training and experience, with the goal of finding the best fit for the position Certification: Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy https://ilea.iowa.gov/law-enforcement-officer-academy/. Must be able to obtain Iowa/NCIC Certification. The successful candidate must pass a background check, physical examination, psychological examination, and drug screen Salary and Benefits: The Assistant Chief of Police is an FLSA exempt position Salary is dependent on candidate’s education, experience and training Salary range is $75,000 - $80,000 Competitive benefit package, including Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) Residency: The City prefers the successful candidate live within the city limits, but must live within a 15-minute response time to Humboldt.
