Description

The City of Coralville, Iowa (population 22,318) is seeking candidates for the position of police chief. The current chief is retiring after serving the department for over thirty-four (34) years, with the last seven (7) years as chief of the Coralville Police Department. Coralville is located in Johnson County, Iowa, and is part of the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coralville is a regional hub for employment, shopping, and medical services. Located in eastern Iowa, immediately adjacent to Iowa City and the University of Iowa, citizens have access to a large variety of cultural events, ample dining, retail, recreation, sporting, employment, educational and entertainment options. Coralville is home to several national and international businesses that include Integrated DNA Technologies, Rockwell Collins, and CIVCO to name a few. The department has two (2) Lieutenants, five (5) Sergeants, twenty-eight (28) officers, and five (5) non-sworn support staff. This is an exceptional opportunity for the right person. Requirements

Education Requirements: Minimum of graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree. A master’s degree is preferred. Coursework should include areas of police science and administrative methods and techniques. Experience: Extensive experience in police work, which should include experience in management of personnel and job-related tasks. Salary and Benefits: The police chief is an FLSA exempt position Salary: Negotiable DOQ; salary range is $126,885 - $165,103 Generous benefit package including: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, Iowa Public Employee Retirement System (IPERS) contributions, group health ($35/month - family plan), dental/vision, life insurance, and flexible health/dependent care spending plan contributions. Certification: Candidates must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to Carry Weapons, and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy ILEA | Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The successful candidate (if non-Iowa Certified) must pass a physical agility test, cognitive exam (POST test), psychological examination (MMPI – II), physical examination, and drug screen. Residency: The City requires that the successful candidate live within the city limits within a reasonable amount of time. The City may consider a candidate who currently lives/owns a home in the Coralville/Iowa City area.
