Visitation will be Tuesday, August 11 from 3-6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Johnson County SEATS or Iowa City Hospice. Bob was born April 30, 1939, in Iowa City, the son of John and Alma (Unash) Stika and brother of Arlene and Dorie. He graduated from City High School in 1957. He married Gail Kohl whom he later divorced. In 1983 he married Edyie Pirtle and they lived in Iowa City. In the late ‘50’s, Bob worked for A & P Supermarkets and then Economy/Bankers Advertising in the bindery department. In 1960, he became a postal carrier in the Iowa City area and then in 1967, he became an Iowa City police officer. He served as a police officer for 23 years until disability retirement in 1990. After recovering from his surgeries, he began to work for First National Bank in 1992. He worked as a parking lot attendant through the many changes at the bank from Mercantile to First Star and finally to US Bank. He retired in 2003 when the parking lot no longer required an attendant. He enjoyed his retirement working on computer projects of pictures and music for his friends and his own enjoyment. Bob was a weather spotter for TV9 News since the beginning of the weather spotter program. His name was often mentioned during the weather. He was also the proud owner of The Knitting Shoppe with his wife Edyie, who had become an expert knitter. Bob was a member of Iowa City Police Local 16, which he served as secretary for some time. He was also a member of the Iowa City Police Association and the Chiefs Association. For many years he helped organize the fund raisers for Local 16, including the many Policeman’s Balls and the country music show that brought LeRoy Van Dyke to town. He worked hard in his careers and always tried to give it everything he had, and he had a good work ethic. He liked his many friends and family and his wonderful kitties, Sarah and Sammy. Survivors include his wife, Edyie, sons Nick and his wife Dawn, Rob and his wife Lisa and grandsons Jesse, Tyler and Jacob and his sister Dorie Havel. Bob is also survived by numerous extended family, friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepsons Jeffrey Pilkington and Mike Pilkington, his father-in-law Eugene Pirtle, mother-in-law Julianne Pirtle, daughter Tami, sister Arlene Neuzil, sister-in-law Margaret LaTour and brothers-in law Ralph Neuzil and Glen Havel. He was the last child to be born at home in Marshall County. He married Frances Darlene Hunt on February 12, 1961. They had known each other from childhood . Terry was a jokester in school, and that served him well in his positions of authority in his life. He was very proud of his service, both in the Marshalltown Police Department and in the military. He served 4 years in the Navy, 5 years in the Army, and 11 years in the Air Force Reserves. He was also a police officer for 27 years, serving as a captain for many of those years. After retiring from military and police service, Terry went into service in the private sector, delivering Winnebago’s all across the country with Fran, and driving a shuttle for river enthusiasts in Colorado. Service defined his life, but at his heart, Terry was a farmer. He loved John Deere tractors, he loved fishing, and he loved the quietude of farm life. He was a talented woodworker, not only able to produce woodworkings, but repair anything made of wood that was damaged.  Terry is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Fran; daughter Kim Hofstetter-Johnson (C.J.); son Kendall McCrary; grandchildren Nicholas Hofstetter, Peter Johnson, and Jonathan Johnson; and great granddaughters Emersyn and Riley.  In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his in-laws Ezra and Lena Hunt, and his son-in-law Bill Hofstetter.  Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted to care for Terry and his family. Bob retired from the Des Moines Police Department as a Detective, where he dedicated over 32 years of his life. He was a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Blue Lodge. He was also instrumental in the family business of Hardenbrook Concessions. He was a founding member of the Central lowa Iron Warriors Motorcycle Club. Bob lived a heartfelt life spending time with family and friends and navigating thousands of miles on his Harleys, collecting treasured memories along the way. Along with his Harleys, Bob was passionate about protecting the people of Des Moines and upholding his positions with pride. He enjoyed vacationing in Jamaica and it is said that Bob never met a beach or scotch he didn't like. Bob enjoyed sports, especially watching his grandson Dakota play. And loved bringing people together serving polish sausage at fairs and festivals across the Midwest. Bob never spoke poorly of anyone and will be missed by many. He requested for his lasting legacy to be helping in death as he did in life by donating his body to the Des Moines University Donor Program. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. "Mike" Leeper, 78, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2026. After becoming unexpectedly ill over the Fourth of July weekend, he briefly showed signs of improvement before suffering a stroke on Friday. Mike spent 78 years doing what came most naturally to him: serving others. Whether as a farm boy, soldier, police officer, historian, handyman, mentor, husband, father, or honorary grandpa to countless children and neighbors, Mike never stopped showing up for the people he loved and the community he called home. Born in September 1947, Mike grew up with a farm boy's work ethic and sense of humor. He liked to joke that when he arrived at basic training, he finally got to sleep in. While many things changed throughout his life, his humble beginnings never left him. He remained hardworking, practical, fiercely loyal, and always willing to lend a hand. If Mike couldn't fix it himself, he knew someone who could. If he didn't know someone, he knew someone who knew someone. Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army from November 21, 1966, to November 20, 1968, during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Specialist Fifth Class, served as a rifle sharpshooter and driver with the 572nd Transportation Company (Medium Truck), and found his niche in military service. The camaraderie and sense of purpose he discovered there remained important to him throughout his life. He deeply valued the brothers and sisters in arms with whom he served and carried that respect into every chapter that followed. A love story worthy of Mike's storytelling began at the Iowa State Fair. Although Mike and Marjorie had attended the same high school and knew of one another, it wasn't until August 1969, while Mike was giving helicopter rides at the fair, that their story truly began. He called her that November, they were engaged in December, he began the Des Moines Police Academy in January, graduated in May, and married Marjorie that same month. For the next 56 years, they built a marriage that was authentic, honest, and full of laughter. Neither ever had to wonder what the other was thinking, for better or worse! Together, they created the kind of home that made everyone else wish Mike and Marjorie were their parents. Mike loved being a police officer. Following his military service, he devoted 33 years to the Des Moines Police Department, serving in numerous capacities, including undercover vice officer, senior patrol officer, polygraph examiner, sergeant, dispatch supervisor, youth services coordinator, logistics supervisor, and assignments within the Detective Bureau and Missing Persons Unit, as well as serving as Chief of Staff to former Des Moines Chief of Police Bill McCarthy. His first day with the department was one for the history books, as the police station was bombed. Throughout his distinguished career, Mike earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and citizens alike, not only for what he accomplished, but for the integrity, fairness, and compassion he brought to the badge. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Simpson College in 1976 after attending Des Moines Area Community College, reflecting his lifelong belief in education, mentorship, and public service. Mike loved a new audience and never met a stranger for long. He could tell a story that made you laugh until your sides hurt, fix whatever was broken in your house, and somehow convince you that you were the one doing him a favor. He believed children should be protected, history should be preserved, and that helping others was simply what you did. Retirement wasn't something Mike understood very well because service wasn't a job to him. It was who he was. Those who knew Mike knew he came equipped with an ornery sense of humor, an unwavering sense of justice, and a willingness to help that could not be contained by retirement. He was protective of the people he loved, especially children, and found great joy in creating memories for them. He built Halloween candy chutes, played the Easter Bunny, and delighted in teasing kids with his playful sense of humor. Children naturally gravitated toward him, and adults quickly learned they could count on him. Mike's talents extended well beyond his professional accomplishments. He rebuilt homes for family members, fixed roofs, tackled plumbing and electrical projects (sometimes despite everyone's better judgment), and happily spent countless hours helping others. It took falling through a ceiling before he finally began slowing down, though even then, he never stopped offering advice or lending a hand. Family was at the center of Mike's life. He treasured summers boating with his family and friends and looked forward to annual vacations to Florida. He was a devoted husband and father who made time for those he loved, and while Stephanie is his only daughter, she grew up surrounded by countless adopted siblings. Neighbors became family. Friends became family. Children became grandchildren in every way that mattered. Mike and Marjorie had a gift for making people feel like they belonged. Mike was also a passionate historian and protector of the legacy of the Des Moines Police Department. Long before the Des Moines Police Museum and Hall of History officially existed, artifacts destined for the trash found their way into the Leeper home because Mike knew they mattered. He founded and curated the museum, organized and helped author the historical book *Behind the Badge*, and dedicated countless volunteer hours to ensuring the stories and sacrifices of Des Moines police officers would never be forgotten. When families called from across the country hoping to learn about an ancestor who had served on the force, Mike gladly opened the museum and gave private tours. Younger officers hung on every word as he shared stories from the department's rich history, reminding them that time moves quickly and that the people who came before us deserve to be remembered. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Marjorie Leeper; his daughter, Stephanie (Mark) Pawletzki; his uncle, Jim (Kathy) Cerfogli; his brother-in-law, John (Renee) King; his sister-in-law, Cindy (Scott) Lonsdale; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, neighbors, and former colleagues whose lives are better because they knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laird and Loretta Leeper. Schroeder</h2> <h2>Jun 15, 1939 — Jun 12, 2026</h2>   Don Schroeder, 86, of Davenport, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, surrounded by his family and under the compassionate care of Country Manor Memory Care, Davenport. Cremation has been accorded and graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, June 19, 2026, at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Those wishing to attend should meet at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, by 9 a.m. to join the procession. Don Edward Schroeder was born June 15, 1939, in Davenport, to Harold “Whitey” and Lillian (Stanley) Schroeder and grew up in the west end of Davenport. He met his future wife Penny Conway on a blind date, and they were united in marriage on October 28, 1967, at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Together they raised three children whom Don loved deeply. Don graduated in 1957 from Davenport High. He joined the Navy Reserves in October 1957 and was called to active duty in December 1958, proudly serving his country overseas in the Pacific on the USS Rupertus until his honorable discharge in November 1960. Don became a police officer for the city of Davenport in October 1963 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant at the time of his retirement in 1998. In his retirement years, he worked as a driver for Lujack Auto Plaza and Diamond Vogel Paint. He loved sports, but he really loved golf. Watching golf, playing golf and talking golf. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, watching Hawkeye football and basketball, passing that love of the Hawkeyes down to his children and grandchildren. While he enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, he was really a closet Detroit Tigers fan. He took great pride in keeping a well-maintained yard, loved his dogs and expanded his knowledge of trivia by watching Jeopardy at 4:30 every day and also, playing more golf! Don always loved driving whether it was for his job or just driving around to take in the scenery. He enjoyed many vacations to Colorado and Maine but loved just being at home. He was fascinated by all things World War II but specifically the Pacific Theatre. Survivors include his wife Penny; children Robin (Mark Kuehl) White of Davenport, Jenny (Scott) Bowers of Altoona, IA, Brian (Melisa) Schroeder of Chicago; grandchildren Alicia (Robert) Paasch, Kevin (Jessica) White, Taylor Wilkens, Nathan White, Jonah White, Evelyn Johnson, Ozias Schroeder, KayLee Kuehl, Ian Kuehl and Evan Bowers; seven great grandchildren, Landon, Bentley, Addison, Lilah, Kirstyn, Makenzie and Gabe; Cousins, who were more like a brother and sister, Jack Ackerman and Sunny Horstmann; and his good friend and golfing buddy, Brian Heyer. Larson July 15, 1932 - May 20, 2026</h2>   Michael R. Larson, 93, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on May 20, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a devoted servant of his faith and community. Born on July 15, 1932, Michael was a graduate of Bishop Heelan High School class of 1950. He married his beloved wife, Julie Ann Schunk, on September 26, 1953, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City, Iowa. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, after which he earned his business degree from Morningside College. In 1961, he began a distinguished career with the Sioux City Police Department, serving the citizens of Sioux City with honor and dedication for 30 years, before retiring in 1991 at the rank of Lieutenant in charge of the investigation division. Michael was a faithful member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church, where he generously gave of his time assisting with daily mass and helping with collections. Together, Michael and his wife Julie were active participants in the RCIA program, accompanying and supporting those entering the Catholic faith. Michael was on the board at Trinity Queen of Peace, where they also devoted their time to maintaining the grounds and participating in prayer devotion. Michael's faith was not only a personal conviction but a cornerstone of the family he and his beloved wife built together. With steadfast devotion, they raised their children on the enduring values of faith, love, respect, and the importance of family. Michael was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Julie Ann Schunk Larson, who passed away in 1998, and by his grandson, Joshua Ingrum, who passed in 2024. Michael is survived by his sister, Linda White, and children: Kathleen Babe, Anthony Larson, Roxanne Larson (Katie Cole), Theresa Ingrum (Jeff Ingrum), Kerry Gangestad (Dean Gangestad), Daniel Larson, and Timothy Larson; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. Lives well-lived, Michael and Julie leave behind a legacy of service, faith and love that will endure in the hearts of all who loved them. A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ (320 NE 141st Ave, Alleman, IA). Burial will take place at Lincoln Township Cemetery in Alleman, IA. Pink was born on January 31, 1934, in Des Moines, IA, to Henry and Edna Knight. Pink attended East High School, was enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years, and then joined the Des Moines Police Department in February 1956. It was a 37-year career he put his heart and soul into; he retired on July 16, 1993. During his time on the force, he attended many schools, but his favorite was LSU in Baton Rouge, LA. He made lasting relationships with southern law enforcement officers. He also attended DMACC and Simpson College. His last fifteen years were spent as Captain. He oversaw the Police Training Academy, training all new officer recruits. Pink and his wife, Charlene “Char”, spent 50 years at Lake Ponderosa with family always present. He and Char built their retirement home there in 1989. They spent many winters in Bullhead City, AZ and moved back to Ankeny in 2009. Pink was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman, IA, the Des Moines Police Burial and Protective Association, Iowa State Police Officer’s Association, Iowa Sheriff’s Association, Baldwin Patterson American Legion, Home Lodge, Scottish Rites, and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. Pink was also President of the Des Moines Burial Association in 1969. Pink will be remembered for his love of family and his “dancing abilities”. He is survived by his wife, Charlene; son, David (Rosalie); daughter, Charlinn (Berry); daughter-in-law, Joyce Knight; brother-in-law, Ted (Judi) Lodden; seven grandchildren, Albert III, Alexis, Dani, Samantha, David II, Michael, and Shelley; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Albert Jr.; parents, Henry and Edna Knight; and sister, Barb Knight. Michael was born on September 1, 1944, in Waterloo, Iowa, one of three children to Maxine (Mueller) and Robert Beener. Michael grew up in Waterloo and later resided in the neighboring city of Cedar Falls. He graduated from high school in 1962 with a successful sports legacy and an offer for a college football scholarship. He then worked for the United States Post Service in California and returned to work at John Deere in Iowa. He was drafted to serve in the United States Army in January of 1968. By December of 1969, he was honorably discharged into the Army Reserves and returned home to Iowa. On September 5, 1970, he married Christina Weidman. Michael continued his career at John Deere and later worked for the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier. He went on to serve his community in different roles for 25 years at the Waterloo Police Department and retired as a captain. After his retirement, Michael and Christina moved to Maryland and resided in Calvert County for the last six years. Michael enjoyed showing horses with daughter Kerri and later caring for his horses. He loved all things water – water skiing on the Cedar River, house boating on the Mississippi River, running a fast jet ski anywhere, fishing in Canada, pontooning, and watching boat activity from his deck on Cottage Row in Cedar Falls and later from favorite restaurants in Solomon Islands, Maryland. Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Christina Ann Beener; his daughters Christy Rain (David Gould), and Kerri Pasquale (Anthony); grandchildren Benjamin (Emily), Christopher (Haylie), and Anna (Christian) Rain; Braydon, and Lilia Pasquale; great-grandchildren Wren, Thad, Maisie, and Naomi, and his sister Cheryle Shook. After his retirement he earned a bachelor's degree from Upper Iowa University and went on to manage the Midwest Federal Credit Union. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where he served as a Deacon, and former President. Ken enjoyed deer hunting, playing cards, and socializing with his senior golf league. Above all, he was a family man, attending events for his children and grandchildren. He later served as a police officer with the Des Moines Police Department, where he spent many years in service to the community, retiring in 1996 with the rank of sergeant. Toward the end of his tenure, Bill became a familiar face in the community through his role as the department’s information officer, appearing regularly on local news broadcasts. Known for his natural humor and ease with people, Sgt. Bill Judkins carried himself with a presence that made him both trusted and memorable. A man whose dream job had always been to work as a radio disc jockey, Bill found a way to get close when he was hired by WHO-TV as a morning traffic reporter. In that role, he leaned fully into his wit and personality, occasionally featuring guest traffic reporters such as NBC network anchor Tom Brokaw and then–Des Moines mayor Arthur Davis. Parallel to his work in infotainment, he also served as director of operations at Operation Downtown, where he helped establish this new program for downtown which carries on still today. But Bill’s work isn’t what defined him. To really know him, you had to look at how he lived when there was nowhere he needed to be, only places he wanted to go and people he wanted to be with. It was there in the winters spent in Naples with his family, in summers fishing, sometimes even successfully, in northern Minnesota, and, in every season, in his steadfast presence in the lives of his grandchildren and all of their activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hewitt and Betty Judkins, and his brother Larry. A proud retired police officer, Steve served with the Davenport Police Department for 38 years (1972-2010), earning numerous commendations, including American Legion Officer of the Year and KIBJ-TV Officer of the Month. After retiring from the police force, he worked for several years at the Davenport Duck Creek Golf Course. His commitment to community service extended beyond his profession—he was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 24, a Little League baseball coach, and a Junior Achievement advisor. Steve was a devoted husband and father who treasured spending time with family and friends. Known for his handyman skills, he was always ready to tackle home repairs. In his younger years, Steve enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and camping. He was an avid bowler, competing in local leagues, and a lifetime member of the 700 Series Club. Steve traveled to Chicago to bowl in the Peterson Classic and to participate in the Men's National ABC Tournaments. He was an active member of the Davenport Police Association, Local 2, a lifetime member of the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers, and a member of the Iowa State Policemen's Association. He also served as a board member for the Iowa State Police Collective Bargaining Unit. In his later years, Steve and Paula enjoyed traveling abroad and taking numerous cruises. Al was born April 23, 1926, near Ryan, Iowa, to Frank and Aola (Burnside) Chrystal. He attended elementary and high school in Manchester. At 18, he joined the Navy, serving as a radio operator during WWII. He was assigned to the USS Catamount, an amphibious ship charged with landing men and equipment in the Pacific region. The Catamount was in Tokyo Bay when Japan surrendered. He had awe in his voice when he spoke about standing on the deck, watching as representatives from Japan and the Allies signed the documents that ended the war. In 1952, he joined the Iowa State Patrol in Davenport. The job was a perfect fit for him, and he loved and took pride in his career. Al had countless stories of his adventures on the Patrol, some exciting, some hilarious, and some harrowing. He provided security for every US president from Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan, as well as former presidents, candidates, prominent journalists, and celebrities appearing at the Iowa State Fair. He was especially proud of managing security for Pope John Paul II’s historic visit to Iowa in 1979. After retiring as assistant chief of the Patrol in 1981, he took on a new challenge as director of the Driver's License Division for the Iowa DOT, retiring “for real” in 1991. In Davenport, Al met his true love, Joyce Wicks. They married May 17, 1954, and celebrated by attending a performance by Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. In 1966, a promotion brought them to Des Moines. Later they lived in Johnston for several years. Al and Joyce were a great match, and lived a full life focused on family. They were devoted to their daughter, Karen, and their son, James, and enjoyed many family camping trips, games, and general good times. After Al’s retirement, they delighted in traveling around the country in their motorhome with their little dog, Lexi, although they had grandsons by then and never stayed away too long. Al and Joyce had nearly 54 wonderful years together until her death in 2008. Al’s childhood was challenging, and he was only two years old when his own father died. Nevertheless, he was a genuinely positive person who always focused on bright side. He adored his wife and kids, and he loved his three brothers and his mom, as well as his nieces and nephews. He was crazy about his three grandsons and greatly enjoyed spending time with them and keeping up with their lives. Al passed just short of his 100th birthday. His loved ones feel blessed to have had so much time with him, but he will be truly missed. Al is survived by his daughter, Karen Chrystal; son-in-law, Michael Kuehn; daughter-in-law, Yolanda Chrystal; and grandsons Nicholas Kuehn, Alec Kuehn, and Cole Chrystal. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce, and his beloved son, James. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1956. A proud patriot, he served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960, serving in the Middle East. He married Claudette Hathaway on October 4th 1959. His lifelong commitment to service and community began early and never wavered. He proudly served the people of Iowa for nearly three decades as a member of the Iowa State Patrol, beginning in May of 1965 and retiring in 1994 after 29 years of honorable service. His dedication to protecting others extended far beyond his career. William volunteered with the Wilton Fire Department for 35 years, from 1965 until 2000, and dedicated 15 years of service to the Durant Ambulance Department. After retiring from the State Patrol, William continued working for five years as a security officer at North Star Steel. In 2000, William and his wife Claudette moved to Lake Panorama, where he remained as hardworking as ever, serving as security for Lake Panorama and staying actively involved in the community. A man of deep faith, William served as an elder in the Lutheran Church for many years and continued this calling at St. Thomas Lutheran Church after moving to Lake Panorama. He also served on the Wilton Park Board and devoted many years as a Boy Scout leader, mentoring and guiding young people. At Lake Panorama, William found special joy in reading to second graders at the local elementary school, a role he cherished. Above all, he treasured time with family. He greatly enjoyed boating and fishing with his children and grandchildren, making countless memories on the water. He also loved camping and golfing, always appreciating time outdoors. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Willis and Dorothy Woller, his two sisters Janice Hall and Carol Filter, three nephews: Mike Filter, Mike Hathaway, and Pat Hathaway. William is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Claudette Woller; his two sons, Dale Woller and Douglas Woller (his wife Jessica Woller); six grandchildren: Lindsay, Raynee, Nicole, Natalie, Hannah, and Harrison; and four great-grandchildren: Jameson, Bridget, Callen, and Caysee, who were a constant source of pride and joy. Wes graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1950. Following high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge in February of 1954. Wesley married Sharon L. Thein on July 9, 1955, at the Grace Methodist Church in Waterloo. Together, they were members of the Kimball Ave. United Methodist Church. He served the City of Waterloo for 32 ½ years as a Waterloo Police Officer, retiring in 1986. After his daily shift was over, he worked as Park Police for several years. Following retirement, he worked at Black Hawk Courts as a court attendant from 1986 to 1998. Pete graduated from Walker High School in 1955. He joined the United States Marines Corps and served from 1957 – 1959. Pete joined the Cedar Rapids Police Department in 1967 and retired in 1988 as Lieutenant of Detectives. Also in 1967, he met his soul mate, Carol Weber. Pete and Carol were married on December 5, 1967, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Pete was an avid Miami Dolphins and New York Yankees fan. He also loved fishing, gardening, and spending time with family. Craig also cherished his upbringing on the family farm, where he created many ornery memories with his three brothers and later returned to help care for his dad. Family was the centerpiece of Craig’s life. As a father and grandpa, Craig consistently showed up, encouraged, teased, and loved wholeheartedly—always ready with support or the latest photo of his beloved clan. Craig graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1978 and served the Marshalltown Police Department, retiring after 33 years. His dedicated service included work as a Firearms Instructor, Special Tactical Unit (STU), Drug Task Force, and Detectives. While Marshalltown was his home, the family farm in Milton remained his place of renewal. He generously volunteered his time renovating the Milton Christian Church and helping build the Milton Legion Hall. Craig found joy in life’s simple pleasures—time with loved ones, fishing in Canada, family vacations and woodworking, a talent he shared with his father and son. Brent graduated from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He later moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he joined the Des Moines Police Department as a cadet in 1986 later entering the academy to become a Des Moines Police Officer. He served 36 years on the department serving as Patrol Officer, Vice/Narcotics, Homicide and Robbery, a School Resource officer at Lincoln High School, Missing persons/runaways, Burglary/thefts, and seven years assigned to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation as a forensic computer examiner. He did all this before coming full circle back to Patrol. He retired June 1, 2022. Brent enjoyed spending time with his children, attending all their many activities through the years. He was a foodie at heart and an accredited Google reviewer, something he took very seriously. He was known for taking many pictures of his food when out to dinner. He also enjoyed video games and Iowa Hawkeye Football. But his true passion was his family- he was most proud that we were a close family which included weekly Sunday Dinners. He was so happy when he earned his new title as “Opa” upon the births of his three grandchildren. Brent is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kim. His children Paige (Tyler) Ahrens, Adel, IA, Tanner Curtis, Des Moines, IA, and Dylan Curtis, Waukee, IA. His three grandchildren Henry, Oliver and Chloe. Born April 9, 1941, at his family's home outside of Bonaparte, IA, he was the son of Stephen Otto and Rosine Catherine Pollmiller Holtkamp. On May 11, 1968, he married Bonnie Beth Brayton in West Point.  Ron graduated from high school in Houghton, Iowa, and went on to attend St. Ambrose University, where he earned a degree in History and Economics. He later returned to further his education, pursuing studies in Criminology.    A proud veteran, Ron served in the United States Army from March 13, 1964, to March 5, 1966. He continued his service with the Army National Guard until his discharge on February 28, 1970. In 1971, Ron began a 20 year career with the Burlington Police Department, starting as a street officer. He later became a detective and assisted other agencies with their investigations. He retired from the department in 1991. Ron was a man of the Catholic faith. He was known for always keeping himself busy; whether maintaining his properties or rebuilding computers. He cherished spending time with his wife at their country property outside Mt. Sterling. Ron will be remembered for his meticulous nature, his organization, and his unwavering preparedness in all things. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Holtkamp of Burlington, and several nieces and nephews.. He graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1986 and married his high school sweetheart, Gayle Kelly on August 20, 1988. Their love was reflected most in their 3 children: Alison, Abbie, and Adam. He was immensely proud that his legacy of service lived on through his children: Abbie and Adam who both followed in his footsteps in law enforcement, and Alison who dedicated her career to nursing. Mark served a police officer with the Sioux City Police Department for 32 years, before retiring as a Captain in 2023. While with the police department he succeeded in many roles. Some of these accomplishments included being a SWAT Team commander, member of the DEA task force, and working as a school resource officer. Mark was diagnosis with ALS in January of 2024. Immediately following his diagnosis, he began his most courageous fight yet. He did it with his whole heart and tremendous bravery until his body was ready to rest. Now, he is finally free to talk, run, sing, eat, and breathe with ease once more. He left this earth on his own terms and exactly as he wished—peacefully, dignified and with a heart full of the memories of a lifetime. Mark will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit—a quality that defined him throughout his life. He approached every new experience with enthusiasm, never hesitating to try anything that offered an adrenaline rush. Brilliant and endlessly curious, Mark devoted himself to learning. If something sparked his interest, he researched it deeply and taught himself everything he could. Above all else, Mark loved his family. He was often the steady presence others turned to, the rock who offered unwavering support. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren—Payton, Hudson, and Collins—and his honorary grandchildren, Addie and Hayden. They were the light of his life and the inspiration that helped him push through the most difficult days of his ALS journey. Mark also held a profound love for astronomy and the night sky. He immersed himself in studying the stars and collected every gadget he could to explore the galaxies. His passion for the universe was a constant source of wonder and joy. For those who knew and loved him, Mark is now the brightest star in the sky—guiding, watching over, and shining on in the hearts of all who grieve his passing.
