Richard E. Lamer, 82, of Davenport passed away peacefully in his home, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014.

 Richard E. Lamer, 82, of Davenport passed away peacefully in his home, following a courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014. Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at West Davenport Kingdom Hall on Hillandale Road in Davenport. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to West Davenport Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses or Beacon of Hope Hospice. Richard served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until 1952. On Jan. 3, 1951, he married Maxine Brace in Rock Island. He served on the Davenport Police Department from 1956 until 1986, retiring with the rank of sergeant. Following that, he was employed by Scott County Sheriff’s Department on a part-time basis until 2012.

His hobbies included metal-detecting, fishing and crossword puzzles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and the ministry.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Maxine; children and spouses, Steve and Cindy; Mike and Rosemary; and Lori and Donald; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Mary; and sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Bob. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Helen Lamer.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather and will be deeply missed.
