Glen Thomas Hanson, 81, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Holy Spirit.

Glen Thomas Hanson, 81, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Holy Spirit.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy Smith Funeral Home.

Glen was born Nov. 19, 1952, in Sioux City, to Charles and Florence (Robinson) Hanson. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1951.

He married Lois Joan Preston on Jan. 3, 1953, in Sioux City. He enlisted in the U.S. Army from January 1953 until November 1954.

Glen worked as a police officer with the Sioux City Police Department for 34 years before retiring as captain in 1995.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church, MRHD (Missouri River Historical Development), and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Joan Hanson; daughters, Kimberly (Arley) Rankin of Apache Junction, Ariz., Debra Keele of Sioux City, Susan Cherrier of Sioux City, Katy Fiksdale of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Robin Thompson of Sioux City; sister, Rita Kirkegaard of Hastings, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lewis and Earl Hanson.
