Rudolph V. “Rudy” Alman, 88, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Good Shepherd Health Center.

Rudolph V. “Rudy” Alman, 88, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Good Shepherd Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Keith Scott of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Rudy Alman memorial fund in care of the family.
 
Rudolph was born October 23, 1926, in Chicago, IL, the son of Tony and Martha (Gustaite) Alman. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1947, and later continued his education at Mason City Jr. College where he met his sweetheart, Doris. In 1945, Rudy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, until his honorable discharge in 1947. On September 29, 1949, he was united in marriage to Doris J. Rosenkild at the First Christian Church in Mason City.
 
Over the years, Rudy worked 36 years with the Mason City Police Dept., first as an officer and then detective. He then was a Security Officer at Mercy Hospital for 16 years. Rudy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW, Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, golfing, fishing with his son, and watching boxing & football.
 
Rudy is survived by his wife of 65 years: Doris Alman of Mason City; his children: Kerry Halverson and husband Mike of Garner, IA, Scott Alman and wife Judy of Mason City, and Barbara Smith and husband Scott of Des Moines, IA; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 brother: William Alman and wife Betty of Mason City; and 1 sister: Albina Augustyn of Chicago. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother: Tony Alman and 2 sisters: Violet Rieman and Olga Milbourn.
