Ronald Eugene Reid, 71, of Ankeny, Iowa, died March 22, 2015, in Clearwater FL, from pneumonia/heart failure.

Ronald Eugene Reid, 71, of Ankeny, Iowa, died March 22, 2015, in Clearwater FL, from pneumonia/heart failure.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ankeny Memorial Chapel (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd) with a Vigil service at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 8, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny.

Ron was born on September 25, 1943 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Upon graduation from Abraham Lincoln High School, he joined the U. S. Navy. He met Diane Marie Williams while stationed at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard. They married on April 24, 1965, and moved back to Iowa. He joined the Iowa State Patrol in 1966, was stationed in Ankeny, and retired as a sergeant in 1999. While on the Patrol, he graduated from Des Moines Area Community College.

Ron was past President of the Iowa State Troopers Association, board member and past President of the Iowa State Police Officers Association, past board member of the Jerry Rabiner Boys Ranch in Fort Dodge, past Membership Chair of the National Troopers Association, and a member of St. Mary-Holy Cross Church in Elkhart, IA.

Ron loved to travel, do carpentry, watch NASCAR, have coffee with his friends, brag about his children and grandchildren, and spend time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane; his children, Robert (Brenda), James (Emily), and Linda; his grandchildren, Dakota, Alexandria, Sydney, and Jake, and his beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldro and LoreneReid, and sister, Jeanette Etherington.

Memorial donations may be made to the Jerry Rabiner Boys Ranch in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where Ron was a past board member and regular supporter. Details can be found at www.rabiner.org.
