Randy Hunefeld, 59, died suddenly on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his home in Urbandale.

Randy Hunefeld, 59, died suddenly on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at his home in Urbandale. The family will receive friends 5-8:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Iles Westover Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church. A graveside service will be 11:00 am, Friday at Silver Lake Cemetery in Ayrshire, Iowa.

Randy was born in Waupaca, WI on February 20, 1956 to Marilyn (Hawkins) and Fred Hunefeld. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1974. He served in the US Army from 1976 to 1979. He graduated from Mankato State University in May 1981. He married Bonnie (Peterson) on May 17, 1986. He was a police officer for 20 years in Arnolds Park, IA and West Des Moines, IA. Randy was Chair of the City of Urbandale Civil Service Commission and has worked for the Iowa Department of Public Safety in the Intelligence Bureau and the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau since April 2000.

Randy's hobbies included umpiring, golfing, fishing and hunting. Randy was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. He loved his job: working to make the roads a safer place. He had a great sense of humor. He was a friendly guy who could talk to anyone. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He loved to make people laugh and he made life more fun for everyone who met him.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Fred Hunefeld, his twin brother Rick and his stepfather, Marvin Knutson. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Kayla; son, Scott; mother, Marilyn; siblings: Mark (Shayla) Hunefeld, Matt Hunefeld, Luke Hunefeld, LeAnn (Doug Hoffman) Dietrich and Elizabeth (Derek) Hoffman and many nieces, nephews and great-nephews and great-nieces.
