DON LANGBEIN (1934-2016) LOCAL 10 DES MOINES POLICE

Jackie, 80, and Don Langbein, 81, both passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 in Des Moines. A Funeral service for both will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Jackie was born October 24, 1935 in Harper, IA to Beatrice Morgan. Beatrice and Daniel Rice raised Jackie together in Des Moines. She enjoyed video games, crocheting, baking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Don was born April 28, 1934 in Early, IA to Carl and Pansy (Hammon) Langbein. He was a senior officer for the Des Moines Police Department and a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War. Don coached Little League, helped with Meals on Wheels and had many security jobs in the Des Moines area. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed sports, gardening, biking and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jackie and Don met shortly after Don returned from the military when they both worked at Colonial Cleaners. They opened a restaurant/gas station for a short period in Waukee before Don joined the DMPD. 

Jackie and Don are survived by daughters, Donna Langbein of Des Moines and Julie (Jamie) Langbein of Waukee; and three grandchildren, Cato Gephart, Regan Gephart and Teegan Langbein. They were preceded in death by their son, Steve Langbein. 

Jackie is also survived by her sister, Darlene Klett of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Don is also survived by his brother, Vern (Fern) Langbein of Carroll; and sisters, Thelma Hubbard of Winterset and Margo (Tom) Wald of Goldfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; parents; brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Des Moines Police Foundation, Alzheimer's Association or Suicide Prevention.
