LONNIE GREENFIELD (1947-2016) LOCAL 19 DES MOINES

Lonnie Greenfield, 68, died Thursday May 12, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. The family will receive friends 3-8 p.m. Sunday, May 15th at Iles Westover Chapel. Funeral services will be 1:00 Monday, May 16th at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Lonnie was born July 20, 1947 in Webster City to Kenneth and Evelyn (Lenning) Greenfield. He was raised in Williams, Iowa. As a young man, Lonnie joined the Air National Guard and served in the US Air Force during the Persian Gulf War. He retired from the Guard with over thirty years of service. In 1972 he joined the Des Moines Police Department, serving on the tactical unit as well as many other areas. After 36 years he retired as the Senior Police Officer at the Des Moines airport. 

Member of several organizations, Lonnie is remembered for his time as a past master of Daylight Lodge #660 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine where he was a member of the Provost Guard, Legion of Honor, and a First Ceremonial Master Emeritus.

Survivors include his wife, Ronda; children: Paula (Robert) Garrison of Runnells, Shelley (Garry) Schump of Des Moines and their mother, Jean Greenfield of Des Moines; step daughter, Mindy Appleby of Ankeny; father in law, Norman Sappenfield of Des Moines; grandchildren: Mark, Ivy, Cayden, Kaleb, Jaxon; brothers: Terry (Jerry) Greenfield of Story City, Kelly (Robin) Greenfield of Williams; sister in law, Donna Greenfield of Williams; many nieces, nephews and friends. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Randy.
