Dennis R. "Denny" Schnedler, 77, of Burlington, died at 8:43 AM Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at his home.

Born January 12, 1939, in Ottumwa, he was the son of Carroll Ray and Heinrietta Fredericka Poisel Schnedler. On June 10, 1961, he married Connie Jo Leger in Burlington. She died October 29, 2013.

Denny began working at Hy-Vee and then went on to work at the Iowa Ordinance Plant as a guard.  He then worked for the Burlington Police Department for 18 1/2 years.  In 1984, Dennis and his wife founded Preferred Security Service in Burlington.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from March 22, 1956 until October 15, 1959 and later served in the Naval Reserves until 1967.

He enjoyed reading, horses, and fishing.

Survivors include four sons, Scott C. (Joy) Schnedler, Kyle (Christine) Schnedler, Dennis E. (Brenda) Schnedler all of Burlington, and Lance (Nancy) Schnedler of West Burlington;11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Monty G. (Noreda) Schnedler of Burlington; one sister, Judy (Lynn) Funk of Pueblo, CO; one sister-in-law, Linda Schnedler; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Schnedler.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.

The memorial service for Mr. Schnedler will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 1, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory following the burial.

A memorial has been established.
