Celebration of Life Memorial Services for Rick Parker, 72, of Eldridge will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday August 4, 2016 at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation is Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the MDS Foundation.

Mr. Parker passed away peacefully at his home on Friday July 29th. He was born in 1944 in Davenport, the son of Cyril and Mercedes Parker. He was united in marriage to Marla Smithey on November 14, 1973 in Durant, IA.

Rick was a 1962 graduate of Davenport West High School. After high school, Rick served in the National Guard. In 1966, Rick began a 34 year career with the Davenport Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. Rick held many positions during his career including Commander of the Vice/Narcotics Unit, Commander of the Accident Investigation Unit, and Deputy Director of the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group. Rick was a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. Rick retired in 2000. After his retirement, Rick could often be found at Rustic Ridge Golf Course playing golf with Bill and Jim. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. Rick had a passion for reading, and enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. He was also a talented woodworker.

Survivors include his wife Marla, two daughters: Jaime (Nate) Noel, Eldridge and Beth (Jeff) Fox, Greenville, WI. two sons: Mike (Amber) Parker, Omaha, NE and Tom (Susan) Parker, Bettendorf; 8 grandchildren: Caden Noel, Ally Fox, Dillon Fox, Matthew Parker, Jacob Parker, Lilly Parker, Joe Parker and Charlie Parker; two sisters: Sara (Ron) Lannan, and Mary Ann (Denny) Hagemann, both Davenport, and his beloved dog “Wrigley.” He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: David, Ronald, Dennis, Billie, Gerard, and Patrick and sister, Nancy Van Hoosier.
