David Haviland passed away on May 1, 2017 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, IA surrounded by his loving family.

David was a retired Des Moines Police Sergeant, having served over 20 years with the department. He enjoyed watching police shows and trying to solve the cases before the characters did. He also enjoyed fishing, the lake, playing cribbage, cards, and spending time with his grandkids, who he "loved a million times more than life itself."

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Twila (Heckmann); sons, Matt and Chris (Stacey); daughter, Anne (Rob) Kooker; grandchildren, Landon and Brolen Kooker and Lucas and Laney Haviland; brother, Dale Haviland; sister, Sandra Branchcomb; and several other brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Ruby.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. Funeral service will be on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Clive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Des Moines Police Department Burial Fund, Faith Lutheran Church, or HCI Kavanagh House.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Dr. Mark M. Belz, Dr. Michael J. Page, Dr. Mark W. Westberg, Nurse Jan, Nurse Eileen, nurses on Powell 3 at Unity Point, and HCI Care Nurses at Kavanagh House. Your kindness and tireless work gave us many more memories to cherish.
