John Joseph Morrow, age 87, passed away April 28, 2017, at Risen Son.

John was born June 16, 1929, in Marysville, Kan., to the late James and Frances (Meeh) Morrow. John graduated from high school there and attended Kansas University for one year, and served his country in the US Navy. On May 30, 1953, John was united in marriage to Darlene Hughes. He served this community for 34 years on the Council Bluffs Police Department retiring as a Captain in 1985. His memberships include St. Patrick’s Church, life member of the VFW and American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, The Fuzz that Wuzz Club, and the Police Benevolent Association. John also was the first Helicopter student to graduate from Iowa Western.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Freda Von Sickel; brother, James Morrow.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Darlene; daughter, Mary Ellen Pettit (John), all of Council Bluffs; sons, James (Thomas Stewart), of San Francisco, Calif., Jack (Michelle), of Springfield, Mo.; 4 grandchildren, Kristin Hempel, Matthew Pettit, Sean and Morgan Morrow; brother-in-law, Dick Hughes; nieces and nephews, special friends the Connolly Family.
