LETTS, Iowa — Ronald  "Ron" L. Martin, 81, of rural Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at the St. Mathias Church. Casket bearers will be Zachary Martin, Aaron Martin, Daniel Simmons, Mike McCallister, Doug Watters, and Jim Naber. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow the committal service at Gannon Hall. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Ron was born on November 2, 1935, in Muscatine, the son of Earl E. and Helen M. Criger Martin. He married Rosalyn "Rosie" Y. Finley on May 22, 1959, in Muscatine.

He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for eight years.

He retired from the Muscatine Police Department as a captain after 26 years on the force. He was a member of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish and was also a, NRA Member. He loved hunting and fishing and his twin poodles, Peaches and Gigi.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Rosie Martin of Letts; one son, Tim Martin and wife, Jane, of Muscatine; one daughter, Joan Bierman and husband, Jeff, of Sarasota, Florida; four grandchildren, Andrea Harrell and husband Jeff, Janelle Simmons and husband, Daniel, Zachary Martin and wife, Katie, and Aaron Martin and wife, Samantha; and seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Dillin, and Kody Harrell, Adalise, Isaac, and Declan Ronald Simmons, and Nolan Martin.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
