DONALD DALE WOLFE (1940-2017) WEST DES MOINES POLICE OFFICER, LOCAL 55

07/22/2017

Donald Dale Wolfe Jr., 77, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a week in hospice on July 22, 2017 after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren's.

He was born July 5, 1940 to Don and Grace Wolfe in West Des Moines. Donald was married to Mary Lee (Egleston) Wolfe for 57 ½ years. They were high school sweethearts who loved each other to the very end; Don told Mary every day how he loved her. Together they had five children: Michael, Michelle (Brian), David (Lori), Leann (Dazy) and Donald III (Elizabeth); their oldest Michael passed away at 8 years of age. Donald was blessed with multiple grandchildren to include Kaylee, Olivia, Isabelle, Sonya, Jessica (Luke), Benjamin, Alex, Chris (Jen), Bradley (Wendy), Joe (Lexi), Zachary (Kelsee), and Pat. Donald also had great grandchildren to include Carter, Jon, Grace, Shane and Alina.

After retiring from his Naval adventures in 1963, Don returned to West Des Moines with Mary where they started their family. He joined the West Des Moines police force and loved serving the community where he grew up including serving as a boy scout leader. After retiring as a Lieutenant from the police force, he later owned and operated WDM Towing for many years. He amused us all with his love of Sci Fi, Westerns, NASCAR, solitaire, reading, and iced tea. As he said every day for the last two years, "it's just another day in paradise".

Memorial contributions may be made to West Des Moines Christian Church.
