Douglas Hunter Boyd

July 28, 1953 - June 30, 2017

Douglas Hunter Boyd Sr., 63, of Milton, Iowa passed away June 30, 2017 at the Iowa City VA Hospital. He was born July 28, 1953 in Keosauqua, Iowa to Francis Harold and Hazel Azalea Hunter Boyd. He married Shirley Lenox in May of 1976 in Milton, Iowa. They were divorced. He married Linette Widmar in May of 1989 in Ottumwa, Iowa. They were divorced.

Doug served in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police. After serving time in Korea, he returned to Iowa and worked for the Ottumwa Police Department. He was a policeman for over 20 years. In his free time, he enjoyed Hunting, fishing, cooking, and being outdoors. During the summer months he loved to spend time at Leech Lake in Minnesota. He was a member of the NRA and the Iowa State Police Association. 

He is survived by his mother, Hazel Boyd of Milton, Iowa; three daughters, Bridgette (Jason) Lough of Bloomfield, Amanda Boyd of Reinbeck, Iowa, Natasha (Eric Hootman) Boyd of Bloomfield; two sons, Douglas Boyd Jr., Robert (Cheyanne Randall) Boyd both of Ottumwa, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Jenna, Jordan, Jalee Lough, Trevor Koellner, Zane Scott, Karson Spurgeon, Lane Boyd, Jacob and Paul Hootman, Kaydence and Wyatt Boyd; brother, JR (Mary) Boyd; three sisters, Myra (Ross) Madden, Teresa (Bob) Cole, Tamara Van Pelt; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Milton Christian Church with Pastor Kevin Mote officiating. Burial will be at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton. Military rites will be preformed by Russell-Strait Post #483 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 3-5:00 p.m. at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. A memorial has been established to the Hunter’s Education Program.
