Patrick William Mewes

Patrick William Mewes, 78, of West Burlington, died Sunday, February 3, 2019 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Born October 3, 1940 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Paul and Lena Louise (Patton) Mewes.

Patrick served as a police officer for the City of Burlington for 28 years, retiring in 1987. After his retirement he drove over the road for Shelman and Sons and drove a city bus until his final retirement at the age of 72.

He loved collecting old vintage die cast sprint racecar collectables and served as former president of the M.V.V.R.C.A. He enjoyed dirt track racing and hanging out with the "Smokin Aces". He was well liked and never met a stranger.

Survivors include his daughter Tracy (Christopher) Nowlin of Gautier, Mississippi; two step grandchildren and one sister Mary Janney of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Scott and his life- long companion Chong Mathias.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9th at the Burlington Gym. Mr. Ned Fry will officiate. A memorial has been established.

According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
