George Elias Addison

October 29, 1924 - May 19, 2019

George Elias Addison, son of Edward L Addison and Helen Charlette (Storm) Addison was born October 29, 1924 in Oakland, Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, May 19, 2019 at EveryStep Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa at 94 years of age.

George attended elementary school at Lewis Township #2, a two room country school located at the south edge of Council Bluffs, IA. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1943. Following graduation, George enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at Omaha, NE. He spent his training in California. He was sent to Maui in March of 1944, then joined the 2nd Marine Division at the Sea Of Saipan. From this time until the end of WW II in September 1945, George was in Tinian, Iheya, Okinowa and Nogasaki, Japan working as an M.P. walking the streets of what was left of the towns. He was discharged in January 1946 and was later recalled during the Korean War for 15 months.

Following serving in the U.S. Marines, he attended college and entered the Iowa Highway Patrol in April 1948. George was united in marriage to Virginia Aleen Cox on July 10, 1949 and two children blessed this union, Mark and Sandra.

George served with the Iowa Highway Patrol for 32 years, retiring in 1980. During this time they lived in Sioux City, LeMars and Ottumwa. They lived in Loguna Beach, California during his recall during the Korean War. Following retirement, George worked for Guardian Photo from Mason City as a contract courier and the Wapello County Veterans Affairs office for 7 years. George and Virginia moved to Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola in August of 2016.

Those relatives who preceded George in death were his wife, Virginia Addison, parents, Edward and Helen Addison and daughter, Sandra.

George leaves to cherish his memory, son, Mark (Diane) Addison of Osceola, IA, grandchildren, Travis Addison and his significant other Elaine and their sons George and Jack of San Francisco, CA, Troy (Naomi) Addison and their children Jameson and Tatianna of Bossier City, LA, sister-in-law, Darlene Sorensen of Red Oak, IA, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Cremation was entrusted to Kale Funeral home in Osceola.
