Clarence G. Henry, Jr., 69, of Clinton, passed away Monday at MercyOne - Clinton.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, February 14, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Clinton with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 13 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Clarence Gregory Henry, Jr. was born on January 24, 1951, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Clarence G. and Nada (McDonald) Henry. After moving to Iowa as a child, Clarence attended Camanche High School and the University of Northern Iowa. He married Margaret McGovern June 22, 1974, at the Church of the Visitation in Camanche, IA. They had three daughters.

After graduating from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, Clarence began a career in public service. He served as a police officer for 32 years followed by five years with the Clinton County Sherriff's Department. Throughout his career, he received multiple commendations for valor. He was the first Clinton officer appointed as a community service officer; in this capacity he worked with civic organizations as well as school districts to institute community-driven programming and revitalize the city's neighborhood watch program. He was a member of the Iowa State Police Association.

A dedicated student of history, Clarence married his interests of American history and volunteerism. He lent his time to local schools, lecturing and judging student competitions. Clarence also served as the Clinton Police Department historian and was a member of the Sons of AMVETS. Clarence was a devout member of Prince of Peace Parish. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, St. Edward's Council and served on the Diocesan Council.

Clarence was the devoted husband of Margaret (Maggie) Henry, of Clinton; the loving father of Meghan (Julian) Gutierrez of New York, NY, Molly (Brent) Harlow of West Des Moines, IA, and Bridget (Adam) Siegel of New York, NY; and beloved grandfather of Benjamin and Julian. He also leaves behind his siblings, Annette (Gene) Dickinson of Savanna, IL, Grant Henry of Camanche, IA, and Walter (Sheryl) Henry of Surprise, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents.
