Gene Francis Ugarph, 94, of Camanche, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Park Vista, Camanche, IA. Services will be held 1:00PM Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the service hour Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Gene was born September 20, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harold and Adeline (Tully) Ugarph. Gene married Betty Jane Smith January 15, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clinton; Betty died November 1, 2015.

Gene was a United States Army WWII Veteran and was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Gene was a lifelong Cubs fan, he got to see his dream of the Cubs winning the World Series come true in 2016.

Gene was employed as a law enforcement officer with the Clinton Police Department for 35 years, retiring as Captain in 1986. In retirement he worked part time for Karl Schmitz Funeral Home and Snell-Zornig Funeral Home.

Survivors include his children, Kathleen (Jack) Policha; Susan (Jeff) Wamsley; Sandra (Curt) Vath; Thomas (Cindy) Ugarph; David (Dawn Schultz) Ugarph all of Clinton and Robert (Michelle) Ugarph of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Brianne Schultz, Lindsay Policha, Spencer Policha, Jeremy Dehner, Joshua Dehner, Sally Shultz, Tony Dehner, Hannah Wamsley, Kristy Sattler, Dustin Vath, Shaun Vath, Matthew Ugarph, Stephen Ugarph, Katelyn Ugarph, Erica Felderman, Sarah Hart, Jace Ugarph, Kyle Ugarph, Samantha Ugarph, Miles Lavin and Ryan Lavin and 28 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary and his parents.
