In the early morning hours of November 19, 2017, Officers Waline and King were seriously injured while investigating the report of a burglary in progress to the vacant upstairs apartment of a duplex.

The officers located two females in the kitchen of the apartment.  While questioning the females, Officer King heard a noise further in the apartment and located Matthew Tobin.  While being questioned Tobin attempted to flee the apartment with his flight being blocked by Officer Waline.   Not being able to flee, Tobin started to fight with the Officers, with the fight going to the floor.  During the fight, Tobin produced a pistol from his waistband, firing at the Officers, striking Officer King on the right side of the head and a bullet going through Officer Waline’s shirt sleeve.  Tobin then used the pistol to hit Officer King in the head,  During the fight, Officer Waline fired her weapon at Tobin.  Tobin was pronounced dead at the scene.
