Greetings from Waterloo. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer. I wanted to pass along some information for the upcoming 87th annual Iowa State Police Association conference on October 7th, 8th and 9th in Waterloo. Board Spotlight
By Fred Lepley, Junior Director

Hello all from the East side of the state, Davenport, IA. I know this introduction is later than usual but I have been busy learning the ropes and getting acclimated to my new position as the newest member of the board. I was elected in Dubuque, IA, at the conference last October where I would like to thank everyone for their help and hospitality both during and after the conference. A special thanks to the current board members who since the very beginning have treated me with nothing but warmth and patience, helping me every step of the way and answering my myriad and sometimes lengthy questions!

Officer Assistance Program
By Becki Sammons, Sr. Director

For many years, the ISPA locals and members have been generous donors and supporters of the Rabiner Treatment Center in Fort Dodge.

With the closing of the center last year, the ISPA board has started a new program which we hope will also garner the enthusiastic support of the Membership and Locals and continue the tradition of giving. The Officer Assistance Program is dedicated to serving our own members when unexpected events cause a hardship. Anyone who has experienced a significant medical issue or been affected by a natural disaster knows there can be hidden expenses and incredible stresses that present themselves.

Secretary-Treasure Update
By Ryan Goecke, ISPA Secretary-Treasurer

I hope this finds all of you well and enjoying another Iowa summer. I’m not a fan of summer heat and humidity so fall can’t come soon enough.

Here is an update on the condition of the Iowa State Police Association (ISPA) as of July. Our membership stands at 3146. This number is down from last year as we have had a few members choose not to renew their membership and there is the usual turnover with the locals. We have lost 32 members to death so far this year. Over the long run, we average about 30 deaths per year. The last three or four years have been exceptional with numbers in the mid to upper 30s. I hope this trend is short-lived. We continue to pay a $1,500 death benefit for eligible members. Remember to update your beneficiary. You’ll find the form on the ISPA website under the ISPA Membership tab. I would like to thank you all for getting your dues paid so promptly.
