Allan was born in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Doris (Bull) Schloemer. He graduated from Mason City High School with the Class of 1960. On October 19, 1963, Allan was united in marriage to Glenys Merwin, and together they were blessed with their daughter, Roxanne.

Allan and his father, Virgil, owned and operated the DX and Phillips Gas Stations in Mason City. In 1971, Allan joined the Mason City Police Department, later becoming a Detective. He retired from public service in 1989.

Following retirement, Allan worked as a car salesman for Sedars Motor Co., Skarlis Oldsmobile/Honda, and later Lake Chevrolet. He also served as a Jailer for the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department before taking his final job as a Lead Driver for Pritchard’s of Clear Lake.

Allan’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and photography—especially capturing nature scenes. He was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, and his beloved Iowa State Cyclones. Allan also enjoyed thrifting and finding books to read, particularly those about true crime and mystery. He loved sharing his books with friends once he finished them.  In recent conversations with his family, Allan shared that he had accepted Christ as his Savior.

Allan is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Glenys Schloemer; daughter Roxanne (John) Wagner; and grandson Ben Wagner, all of Clear Lake; his brother, Dave (Karen) Schloemer and sister, Becky Swartwood; brother-in-law, Larry (Hilda) Merwin; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Jackson and Phyllis Rush; along with nieces, nephews and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Doris Schloemer; brothers-in-law, Ed Randolph, Eugene Jackson and Bob Rush.
