Franklin Daile Hicks, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 2 – 4 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Military Honors. A livestream of the memorial service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Franklin, under “photos and videos,” starting at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 13.Burial will be held on a later date at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Franklin was born May 5, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Hattie (Wiley) Hicks. He served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. On October 3, 1959, Franklin was united in marriage to Ellen K. Smith in Harper, Iowa. Franklin was a police officer for the Cedar Rapids Police Department for 35 years prior to his retirement in 1998. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a past President of the Iowa State Police Association. He enjoyed hunting, camping, family vacations and dancing with his wife, Ellen.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Hicks; children, Lisa (Jennifer) Hicks Pershing, James (Aleta) Hicks, Jared (Chris) Hicks and Jason (Janelle) Hicks; grandchildren, Laura (Megan) Brady, Michael (Josh) Kelsey, Nicole Kelsey, Justin (Jessie) Hicks, Travis (Caitlin) Hicks, Kyle (Holly Schneider) Hicks and Allison Hicks; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Oscar (Charlotte) Hicks.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Schultz.
