BOARD SPOTLIGHT
By Judy Kellen, ISPA Junior Director

Greetings from Sioux City, Iowa. Fall is winding down and winter is just about to begin. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and will have a blessed Christmas and a safe New Year. I was elected as the Iowa State Police Association (ISPA) junior director in October at the Annual ISPA Conference in Davenport.

I was raised on a farm in Alton, Iowa. I have eight brothers and sisters, most still living in the area with one in Maryland and one in Las Vegas. I attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation, I taught for six-and-a-half years at Heelan High School in Sioux City. I received my Master of Arts degree in leadership from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb. I was hired by the Sioux City Police Department in 1996. During my career, I have worked as patrol officer and detective. I was promoted to sergeant in 2004. As a sergeant, I have worked in patrol, drug investigations and training. I have served as a field training officer (FTO), firearms instructor, critical incident stress management team member, project lifesaver, armorer and department recruiter....

RABINER ROUND-UP — News and views from Rabiner Treatment Center, home of the Jerry Rabiner Memorial Boys Ranch
By Brad L. Klug MSW, CEO of RTC

Hello to all my brothers and sisters in law enforcement! I hope you and your families all are safe and healthy! Here are a few RTC updates for you prior to the holidays: Annual ISPA Conference in Davenport: October 9–11, ISPA Local #2 Davenport hosted the Annual ISPA Conference. A big thank you goes to Past President Todd Thoeming and his conference committee. This fantastic conference was extra special to Rabiner Treatment Center (RTC).

As always, a huge highlight for RTC came at the Wednesday night banquet, when individual members, as well as representatives of Iowa State Police Association (ISPA) locals, again showed their caring generosity, donating well over $27,000 to RTC! What an abundance of kindness! On behalf of the boys and staff at RTC, I thank you all for your friendship, love and support and for making a true difference in our lives!

MFPRSI UPDATE
Marty Pottebaum, MFPRSI Chair

First, let me thank Eric Court for his service on the Municipal Fire and Police Retirement System of Iowa (MFPRSI) Board of Trustees. Eric was a dedicated board member, who always did his homework and was very engaged. But he has decided to take an opportunity in the private sector, so he had to resign as the “active police officer" on the board. We wish him all the best in his new endeavor.

Now, we have an opening for a new "active police officer" on the 411 board. If any officer currently working for a city covered by 411 is interested, please contact a member of the Iowa State Police Association (ISPA) Board to find out how to apply. We meet about every six weeks. We usually meet Thursday from about 10:00 a.m. until the meeting concludes, which is usually before 4:00 p.m. You would also be expected to attend at least one training seminar every two years. As per the agreement with The League of Cities when the system was started, all time needed to attend board business is excused time with pay. If you have any questions about the position, feel free to contact me at ispamarty@aol.com or 712-251-1799.
